The ONYX BOOX Note 5 is an e-book E reader with an enlarged screen and advanced technical characteristics. The model is equipped with a 10.3” E Ink Mobius Carta display and has a front light and a dual touch control. Thanks to such a large screen, the E reader is ideal for working with large-format documents, including files in PDF and DjVu formats. The model is based on the Android 11 operating system, which allows you to install and use third-party apps and significantly expands the functionality of the device. A built-in Wi-Fi module allows you to use various network services, and Bluetooth support allows users to connect external devices. The device has a thin, lightweight body with a back panel of tempered glass, the reader's screen is covered with protective glass Asahi.
E Ink Mobius Carta are high resolution (207 dpi) screens made using “electronic paper” technology and featuring a plastic backing and lighter weight. The use of plastic makes these screens less fragile than conventional glass-backed screens. Reading on such a screen is as comfortable as on a regular paper page. The power consumption of the screen occurs only when changing the image.
SNOW Field is a screen mode that allows to reduce the number of artifacts on the E Ink screen when it is partially refreshed. If this function is on, a full refresh of the screen is not necessary when reading simple text documents.
The MOON Light 2 technology allows you to use the device in the dark or in poor light conditions without harming your sight. This function creates a soft glow on the screen that is optimal for dark rooms. The front light has a color temperature adjustment and has no flickering thanks to the Flicker-Free technology.
The latest researches have shown that blue light interferes with the production of melatonin (a regulator of circadian rhythms), which is necessary for a person to sleep. Therefore, after reading from the glowing screen of an ordinary tablet or smartphone, it is often difficult to fall asleep. The MOON Light 2 backlight allows you to independently adjust the brightness of the cold and warm light LEDs, choosing at will both a whiter light for reading during the day and a more yellow light for reading before going to bed. The Flicker-Free technology completely eliminates the flickering of the LEDs used in this frontlight. This is due to the use of a constant voltage source. The Flicker-Free technology significantly reduces discomfort and eye fatigue and reduces the likelihood of headaches caused by prolonged use of the E reader.
The E Ink Mobius Carta 10.3” display has a lighter background and higher contrast than any screen in this class. It allows you to read in a bright sunlight and has a high screen refresh speed. The absence of flickering front light and the principle of image formation using “electronic ink” makes reading eye-friendly. The multi-touch screen provides easy control when reading: page turning with short taps, page moving, two-finger zoom, making notes in the text and usage of additional options.
The 10.3” E Ink Mobius Carta display with the SNOW Field function is ideal for viewing documents containing graphs and diagrams, as well as for any PDF or DjVu documents. The absence of flickering frontlight and the principle of image formation using the"electronic ink" method makes reading eye-friendly.
The BOOX software allows you to open a number of different text and image file formats. While reading, you can change the style and the size of the font, the position of the pages, add bookmarks and zoom documents at your wish.
The Note 5 has two sensor layers. A multi-touch capacitive layer is located over the screen surface. You can page e-books and zoom documents with an intuitive two-finger pinch. In addition, a Wacom sensor layer is located under the E Ink panel. Thanks to this, you can make notes on the margins and sketch using a special stylus which comes with the device. The stylus recognizes 4096 degrees of pressure and allows you to draw with extreme accuracy.
Protective glass from a well-known Japanese manufacturer ASAHI is placed over the E Ink screen and protects it from scratches and other damages. The new glass made it possible to abandon additional frame edges, so the screen is located flush to the body of the device. It makes the work with the E reader more comfortable and its look more up-to-date. In addition, a special coating reduces the likelihood of glare on the screen.
The 8-core processor with 2 GHz clock rate and 4 GB of RAM ensure a comfort work with the most complex documents. And 64 GB of nonvolatile memory allows the user to store a considerable library of favorite books.
The software of the E reader allows you to install additional dictionary databases in the Stardict format at your wish or to download offered dictionaries automatically when you connect to a Wi-Fi access point in the dictionary settings.
The device has a fingerprint scanner that identifies the user and ensures the protection of personal data.
Thanks to a built-in Bluetooth 5.0 module, you can connect external devices.
The device supports OTG, thanks to which you can connect additional peripherals that do not require drivers.
The device has a pre-installed audio player, so you can listen to music or audio books. To use it, just run a corresponding audio file. You also can connect earphones or external speakers either via Bluetooth or via the USB Type C connector.
